Media Center Information
Hours
The media center is open Monday through Thursday from 7:10a.m. - 3:15p.m. and Friday from 7:10a.m. - 2:45p.m. The media center operates on a flexible schedule. Teachers may schedule class visits and students may also visit the media center independently with their teacher's approval.
Media Center Resources
The media center provides resources for students, teachers, and staff in the form of print, non-print and electronic materials. The resources include books, computers with internet and media catalog access, numerous videos and DVDs and magazines of interest to middle school students.
Student Services
Classes may visit the media center as a whole group for class checkouts and information literacy lessons. During school hours, students may also visit the media center independently with their teacher's approval. Students do not need a pass to visit the media center between classes and before or after school.
Students may check out two books for a period of two weeks. Additional books may be checked out if a student is doing a special project that requires more materials or if the student is a big reader and wants the added responsibility of more books to care for. Lost or damaged books will result in a charge to the student for the actual cost of the book. We would rather have the book returned than the money, so students are encouraged to do a thorough search for lost materials.
Students may use the media center computers for educational purposes only. Printing is allowed if it is for an assignment. Students may print up to 5 black and white pages and 1 color pages for no charge. After that, there is a charge of .10 cents per page for black and white and .25 cents for per page for color.
Teacher Services
Teachers are always welcome to visit and utilize the media center for class time and professional development. Professional journals, teaching resource books, DVDs, computers, digital cameras, video camcorders, and a laminating machine are available for use. Teachers are encouraged to contact the media specialist whenever they need resources pulled for a particular lesson or if they would like a list of books on a specific topic created in Destiny.
